Act one, act two

The night

Two parties in one night. The first one is a pool. The second one is fifty people in pajamas on a dance floor, with DJs until late. Come at five. Doors close at 10:30. There is no closing time. Sunrise is not off the table.

Pool

5:00

Doors. The pool opens.An outdoor bar, seriously good cocktails, poolside bangers. Swim, float, soak up the last of the sun and bask in the glory of having nowhere else to be. Four hours, and then it's gone. Come at five and actually get in.

6:30

Be here by nowThe light turns at seven and the sax starts with it. This is the call time if you want the good half of the evening.

7:00

Stephen plays the sunsetLive sax over a DJ set, outdoors, straight through golden hour. Sun goes down at 7:32 and he plays until it's dark.

The turn

8:00

Food, out in the yardIt was going to be pizza. It is now Chick-fil-A. We stand by this.

8:30

Everybody changesPajamas. Yes, really, all of us, at the same time. This is the whole point of the party.

9:00

Pool closes, yard shuts downEveryone out of the pool. The door out to the yard gets shut for the night and everything moves inside, and stays inside.

Dance floor

9:30

Aaron opens the floorQuick toast first, two minutes, everybody finally in pajamas. Then Aaron drops the first track on the last word of it. Be on the dance floor by 9:25. Or else.

10:30

Doors closeNo arrivals, and once you leave you’re out. The back yard is done for the night and the party is indoors from here.

11:00

Petty takes it from hereEverything on this list has happened by now. No more schedule, nothing left to be on time for. Just Petty and however long you’ve got in you.

Sleepwear, not underwear

What to wear

Swimsuit for the first half. Party pajamas after 8:30. Both halves matter, so bring both.

There is a prize

Best pajamas wins a small inflatable zebra.

That is the entire prize. It is worth nothing, we are judging anyway, and the winner gets it overnighted at considerable expense.

At 8:30 every single person changes. If you show up empty-handed you will be the one person in a damp swimsuit at a pajama party.

Plenty of places to change. The upstairs guest bathroom, the dressing room, and our bedroom and bath are all open to you. If a door is shut, try the next one.

Please rideshare. We are asking everyone.

Not a soft suggestion this time. We’re on a small U-shaped loop with almost no parking, and back when this house was a short-term rental it was the cars, not the noise, that made this street hate us. We’ve spent a year earning that back. Please don’t let one night undo it.

Parking

If you must drive, don’t be a dick.

Park tight and don’t block a driveway. Our neighbors offered to move their own cars to make room for you, which is more than we asked for.

Going home

Wait inside until your car is actually out front, then walk out.

A group standing in the street waiting on an app is the thing our neighbors will hear at one in the morning, not the car. Doors closed quietly, voices down.

Extremely unserious behavior, treated with great seriousness

House rules

Short list. We are not precious about much, but we do live here and so do our neighbors, and we intend to be far too busy getting lit to enforce any of this.

Guest list only. No plus-ones this time, the house has a limit and we’re at it. There’s someone on the door with the Partiful list, and a name that isn’t on it can’t come in, even standing right next to you.
The doors close at 10:30. No arrivals after that, and no re-entry either. Heading out? Head out. Plan your errands accordingly.
The pool and the backyard close at 9. By then the bar, the music and everyone else are already inside, and the yard goes dark.
After 9:30 the party is all on the first floor. Upstairs is open before then so everyone can change. Once the dance floor opens we rope the stairs, because friends are sleeping up there and we are not party-proofing a whole house.
Nothing glass. Not by the pool, not in the kitchen, not anywhere.
Dry off before you come in. Please don’t sit on the furniture in a wet ANYTHING. The sofa has been through enough.
Don’t text us on Saturday. We will be thrilled to see you and completely incapable of reading a phone.
Anything you need, find Seth. A towel, a charger, a spill, a question, a minor crisis. Fixing things and keeping us sane is his entire job tonight, and he would much rather you asked him than went looking for us (and so would we).
